I do not understand the exact reason why the VMware tools is not installed on this image. Anyhow, the darwin.iso file is included in this download. We can use this file to install VMware tools inside the Lion OS X guest machine to get multiple display resolutions and better performance.I recommend taking a snapshot before proceeding further steps.

I tried again choosing VDMK disk as someone suggested but it hung as well. This time I let it run 18 hours.I also downloaded an older version of VirtualBox since that was also suggested (4.1.6).

Just want to say your article is as surprising. The clearness to your submit is just excellent and i can assume you are knowledgeable on this subject. Fine with your permission let me to snatch your RSS feed to keep updated with forthcoming post. Thanks a million and please keep up the enjoyable work.

The default NVRAM will boot up previous OS X systems, but it will not boot up a Lion volume. I have a VM that I initially used as a Snow Leopard system. Booting into that system seems to have set the NVRAM so that it will know how to boot a Lion volume. Here is the NVRAM file from that VM. You can download it and use it in your VM.

The O'Reilly pocket guides are great little aids to keep beside one's Mac: they have all the information the user is likely to need (and more can always be found online), without taking up an inch-and-a-half of space on the bookshelves. However, I'm reviewing this one in its pre-publication electronic form, which I have to say is nowhere near as convenient. Having to switch from Windows (on my virtual machine) to the Mac is only a matter of a key press, and it would be easier if I had another screen plugged in, but flicking through the pages is not really possible in the electronic form: in the battle between scrolling and flicking, give me flicking every time. I can download a version to put on my Sony Reader, but that is really no more convenient.

There's a curiously aviation like motif in the new operating system: thus, we have a Launchpad (a new way of viewing the applications, instead of using the Applications folder in Finder) which is a feature derived from iOS, Air Drop (file transfer over wi-fi), and Mission Control (a way of viewing the contents of everything open on however many desktops you have set up, and incorporating what used to be called Exposé). Seibold deals with all of this and more in the first chapter and in subseuqent chapters deals with lots more, from installation (which I found tedious - a three to four hour download and immediate destruction of the installer after installation!) to password management.

I have just ran into the same problem after updating. The JRE that is downloaded by OSX Lion is missing JavaRuntimeSupport.jar which will work but can wreck havoc on a lot of things. If you've updated, and you had a working JDK/JRE installed prior to that, do the following in Eclipse:

For Mountain Lion, Apple's java is up to 1.6.0_35-b10-428.jdk as of today. It is indeed located under /Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines . You just download "Java for OS X 2012-005 Developer Package" (Sept 6, 2012)from In my view, Apple's naming is at least a bit confusing; why "-005" - is this the fifth version, or the fifth of five installers one needs? And then run the installer; then follow the above steps inside Eclipse.

Nevertheless, keep in mind that if you visit developer.apple.com/downloads, you can only find 10.3-10.6 OS X operating systems there. Newer versions are not available because starting Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.7, the App Store has become the only source of updating Apple OS versions.

The email edition comes with a special download code you can use for the Mac App Store. Note that to install the Lion or Mountain Lion, your Mac needs to be running Snow Leopard so that you can install the newer OS on top of it.

But as it often happens, workarounds are possible. There is still a chance to download the installation file if you have access to a Mac (or virtual machine) running that operating system. For example, to get an installer for Lion, you may ask a friend who has Lion-operated Mac or, once again, set up a virtual machine running Lion. Then you will need to prepare an external drive to download the installation file using OS X Utilities.

Before you do it, the best advice is to back your Mac up so your most important files stay intact. In addition to that, it makes sense to clean up your Mac from old system junk files and application leftovers. The easiest way to do it is to run CleanMyMac X on your computer (download it for free here).

If none of the options to get older OS X worked, pay a visit to the nearest local Apple Store. They should have image installations going back to OS Leopard and earlier. You can also ask for their assistance in creating a bootable USB drive with the installation file. So, here you are. We hope this article has helped you to download an old version of Mac OS X. Below are a few more links you may find interesting.

Installing Finale 2011 within the VM was also fairly straightforward, though again there are a few things to be aware of. First and foremost, I needed an installer, which was a little challenging given that the Macbook Air does not have an optical disc drive, and the oldest version of Finale you can download an installer for from MakeMusic is Finale 2012!

dI used Disk Utility on my old Macbook to create a DMG version of my physical Finale 2011 DVD-ROM, and transferred it over with a flash drive. The Finale installation also required downloading of some of the core Xcode files from Apple (thankfully not the whole thing), and a legacy Java installation.

Detailed Answer: From your question, I gathered that you already have the Mac App Store. If that is correct, you can purchase OS X Lion by calling 1-800-MY-APPLE for $19.99. You will get a content code that you redeem in the Mac App Store that will allow you to download and install the upgrade.

Most of the tasks performed by the average user require thousands if not millions of tiny file transfers. The hard drive that came with your system can perform between 50 and 100 transfers per second. The same budget SSD can perform between 55,000 and 85,000. That means start ups in less than half the time and applications that launch nearly, if not, instantly.

Hi, i have macbook 2007 white and i have install on it Yosemite with mac post factor, but the mac is very slow,ha e a problem with the graphic, forse Exemple the game than i play with lion is all' fine ,with Yosemite the game ha e a low framerate,i have read in this discussion than there are utents than have installa Yosemite fine, how have we doing it?yosemite Whitout error ?

I had serious problems on my 2007 macbook pro when I upgraded from Mavericks to Yosemite, so I had to go back to Mavericks. The computer worked fine and, as I was considering purchasing another macbook, I decided to try to upgrade to El Capitan as a last attempt to keep this workhouse of a computer. To my surprise, I saw that the app store allowed me to download the upgrade and I figured I had nothing to lose. I thought everything was going to freeze up and not work, but everything worked perfectly. Please note, that I do not use any processor (graphics or otherwise) intensive programs and use this computer mostly for email, web browsing and excel work. Therefore, I would not do the upgrade if you intend on using any programs that work fine on the current OS you are running. That being said, the best thing about the upgrade is that it gave this old horse new life and allowed me to use imessage, as well as pick up phone calls from my iphone, on the laptop. I was surprised it work. Now, I'm wondering if I should upgrade the hard drive to an SSD, along with replacing the superdrive which died two years ago, and try to get another two years out of this bad boy. I hope this post helps.

You can use clover too boot and download the .app from the app store using Virtualbox you need 4GB and a iso of MacOS. Also the keyboard and touchpad don't have a driver. Also there's a guide on tonymacx86 for 10.12 beta.

Apple stopped charging for Mac OS X with the release of version 10.9 Mavericks, but users looking for older versions had to pay for the download codes via the Mac App Store. Both Mac OS X Lion and Mac OS X Mountain Lion are still available for purchase for $19.99 each.

Mac OS X 10.7 "Lion" does not include a default Java runtime anymore. Therefore, the operating system may prompt you to install Java if you have not installed it before. You can also download Java for OS X Lion from Apple's website, or search for Java downloads for Mac OS X.

Once you have completed the steps described for your system, below, you maydownload and install GAMIT/GLOBK from the source code provided on the FTPserver. Further information is available on the main GAMIT/GLOBK web page.

Apple provides many advanced command line tools with Xcode, a package mostlydesigned for developers of software but which also contains a C compiler and theX11 libraries and headers required for GAMIT/GLOBK. One must be registered as an AppleDeveloper in order to log in and download Xcode or the Command Line Toolsonly but the program is free to join and there are no obligations. Note thatthis is different from the regular Apple ID.
