What is ITU Gaze Tracker?

ITU Gaze Tracker is a video-based eye tracking software that uses any camera equipped with infrared night vision, such as a webcam or a video camera. It can track your eye movements and translate them into mouse movements on the screen. This can be useful for people who have difficulty using a mouse or a keyboard, or who want to try a new way of interacting with their computer.

ITU Gaze Tracker has been downloaded more than 10,000 times from SourceForge since its first release in April 2009. It is compatible with Windows XP (SP2), Windows 7 (32bit & 64bit), and Windows 8. It requires .NET Framework 3.5 (SP1) to run.

How to Download ITU Gaze Tracker 1.6?

To download ITU Gaze Tracker 1.6, you can visit the official website of the Gaze Group at http://www.gazegroup.org/downloads/23-gazetracker. There you will find a zip file named GazeTracker.v2.0b-32bit.zip that contains the software. You can also download it from this alternative link: http://athena.uoa.gr/eng/applications/view/643.

After downloading the zip file, you need to unzip it to a folder of your choice. Then you can run the file GazeTrackerUi.exe to launch the software. No installation is required.

How to Use ITU Gaze Tracker 1.6?

To use ITU Gaze Tracker 1.6, you need to have a webcam or a video camera with night vision and infrared illumination. You can check the supported hardware on the forum of the Gaze Group at http://forum.gazegroup.org/. You also need to have a fairly decent computer that can handle the video processing.

The first time you launch ITU Gaze Tracker 1.6, you need to calibrate it to your eyes. This is done by following these steps:

  • Click on the Setup button on the main window.

  • In the new window that opens, go to the Tracking tab and click on the Advanced button.

  • Set the pupil and glint detection modes to Auto.

  • Go to the Calibration tab and choose the calibration method and parameters that suit you best.

  • Click OK to close the setup window.

  • Click on the Calibrate button on the main window.

  • Follow the instructions on the screen and look at the calibration points that appear.

  • When the calibration is done, you will see your accuracy score in stars. If you get 3 or 4 stars, you can start using ITU Gaze Tracker 1.6. If you get lower scores, you need to recalibrate by clicking on the Recalibrate button.

Once you are done with calibration, you can click on the Start button on the main window. Now you can control the mouse pointer with your eyes by looking at different parts of the screen. You can launch any application that you want to use and interact with it using ITU Gaze Tracker 1.6.

Note that ITU Gaze Tracker 1.6 does not provide mouse clicking functions. You need to use either your mouse or another software for that purpose.
